Sixth Officer Moody was a Junior Officer on RMS Titanic.

Biography[]

His first appearance in the James Cameron film is letting Jack Dawson and Fabrizio De Rossi board the Titanic when Jack tells Moody that they are Americans.

He is seen on the bridge when the Titanic hits the iceberg, he answers the phone to Lookout Fleet's warning and relies the warning to Murdoch who knocks over Moody's tea. After the collision, Murdoch tells him to note the time in the log. Moody is also seen with the officers when Thomas Andrews informs Captain Smith and Bruce Ismay that Titanic will sink.

During the sinking, he moves to the starboard side and he eventually takes over the firing of the rockets after Joseph Boxhall leaves the Titanic in Lifeboat #2. He tries to stop Caledon Hockley and Spicer Lovejoy from going through the bridge when Spicer tells Cal that Rose and Jack are at Collapsible D.

As Collapsible A is shoved onto the boat deck, Moody and a few seamen try to stop Steerage passengers from climbing over the starboard bridge wing as Murdoch watches A-deck flood. Moody is next seen next to Chief Officer Wilde apparently telling him not to hook the lifeboat to the davits because of how low the Titanic is in the water. He then looks on with a steward and seamen after Murdoch shoots and kills Tommy Ryan after he is pushed by a First Class passenger, but it is unknown if he witnesses Murdoch shooting himself. As the boat deck floods, Moody is seen trying to cling to the collapsible in an attempt to hold it so someone could cut the ropes holding the lifeboat. After Fabrizio cuts one of the lines which only causes the Collapsible to tip over, Moody grabs hold of on of the davits before being swept away into the Atlantic Ocean where he drowns.

Historical accuracy[]

When he is pitched into the water, he is on the boat deck. However according to Lightoller, Moody was with him on the starboard side Officer's Quarters when Lightoller went into the water.
